Important Things to Know About State Fair Sheep and Goat Validation

  • Parent Must be Present to sign validation paperwork – the youth exhibitor is not required to be present, but a parent is required.

  • You don’t need to bring any information with you to validation unless you have breeding sheep and/or goats.  You do not need to bring Quality Counts numbers or social security numbers to validation; this information will be required for stock show entries.

  • Ethics policy – each exhibitor and parent will be required to sign an ethics policy.  The address that goes on the ethics policy needs to be the address where the animals are fed and cared for.  Please make sure that you know what this address is before arriving at validation.   The Ethics Policy is several pages long, so if you would like to read it ahead of time before signing, we have attached one to this email.  The link to access the Ethics policy forms is at the bottom of the page.

  • Email Address – you will be asked to provide a validation email address on your family’s validation form.  Please check the automated emails that you will receive from the Texas Livestock Validation system to make sure that all information has been entered correctly.  You will receive an email within 5-10 days of the validation date.

  • Registration Certificates - If you have a breeding sheep and/or goat, we are required to upload each registration certificate, so you can either email certificates to tiffany.ahrens@ag.tamu.edu or bring them to the Extension Office.  NOTE:  Both sides of the registration papers should be scanned and emailed.

  • NEW THIS YEAR – All lambs and goats validated during the 2023 State Fair Validation Period WILL BE ELIGIBLE for 2024 Spring Major Shows if the animal stays in the care of the exhibitor it is validated to.
  • Extra tags – we ordered plenty of extra tags! Due to being able to roll over sheep and goats that are validated for state fair to spring shows –PLEASE BRING any sheep and goat you have on feed that you plan on showing at a 2024 major! We will go ahead and validate anything you have on feed!

**** One Ethics policy must be filled out for EACH animal Shown, and EACH exhibitor****

If you have any questions about steer and heifer validation, please contact us prior to your validation date.  Brad Roeder and Emily Grant can be reached at 830-997-3452.
